An Anxiety Dream

I had an anxiety dream last night. Haven’t had one of these in a little while, and to be honest, I haven’t been feeling very anxious. I dreamed that I was playing a show at the old Elmdale Tavern (in the pre-oyster bar days) with my bandmates from Capital Grass and the No Men. I was maybe ten or fifteen feet in front of the band but it felt even further because I could only see things through a fish eyed lens. My setlist and microphone were there but when I started playing, I couldn’t remember the lyrics to any of the songs. I looked down at my setlist and realized it had been replaced with a list of songs I hadn’t played in a while.

I tried to get through the set, but I felt so detached from my band that I was hearing delayed echoes of their feed coming through my monitor. In a vain attempt to get back in sync with my them, I tried to play along to their delayed music but no matter how hard I tried, we couldn’t get it together. Eventually out of frustration I moved to an empty area in the bar and tried playing the set unplugged and but still my mind was blank. I felt like crying, I felt like giving up and eventually I did. I told the bar they could keep the money from all the tickets sold because I didn’t earn it…
